Assassin's Creed is one of Ubisoft's most known series and my personal favorite video game series. There have been good and bad games, as all series have, but in my opinion, Assassin's Creed: Origins is the (nearly) best Assassin's Creed ever (The Ezio Trilogy is the absolute best). This is why:
Bayek's story is personal, but it's not exactly the cliche revenge story. We see how Bayek is fueled by rage over his son's death, but over the course of the game his story evolves into something much bigger than himself. He seeks out to rid Egypt of the Order's plague, and the effects of that mission resonates throughout Egypt. Origins does a better job than Odyseey or Valhalla of making the Order more fleshed out and you can see the depth of their actions, and the plot becomes more personal over time while in the other two games, it's not as personal. The characters are good, too. Aya being introduced in the mid-game is a nice addition, and she's more traditional in serving an actual pharoh (Cleopatra) but also dedicated to eradicating the Order…though those two objectives collide with each other when Cleopatra works with the Romans. Overall, the story is great, it makes you see why you should really hate the Order besides the obvious reasons of "they are bad", and most importantly, it's length. Odyseey and Valhalla are too long, but Origins has just the right amount of length and pacing for you to enjoy multiple playthroughs.
Origins' combat is heavier than Odyseey's but lighter than Valhalla's – and it's much better for that. Egyptian weapons are diverse, more precise, and just feel right. It's very polished, while in Valhalla parrying can be a pain at times. The skill tree is also great, simple, and have it's usefulness in not just combat but also archery and passive activities, like dealing with animals. Bosses are well-built and have different strategies, and they matter more to the main story while most of Odyseey's bosses were mythological creatures unrelated to the main plot. Opinions on which game's combat is better can be objective, but to me, Origins' combat hit the mark the first time.
– Graphics and Setting
Origins released in 2017, becoming one of the first few games to be Xbox One X enhanced and could be considered a "PS4 Pro launch title." And wow, it is stunning. The deserts and cities of Ancient Egypt look better than the seas of Odyseey or the lush greens of Valhalla. It's more reliant on whites, so this could depend on your TV, but rest assured your eyes will be satisfied if you play Origins on a 4K HDR Display and a 4K-capable machine. Graphics aside, the setting of Ancient Egypt adds more to the story where social classes were very resonant in all aspects of daily Egyptian life. Throughout Bayek's journey, we see the Order being worshipped while the poor are beaten to death routinely and no one batted an eye. This conveys the harsh realities of Ancient Egypt and how Bayek could be seen as a hero to some.
– It's Placement on the Series as a Whole
After Unity and Syndicate, Ubisoft finally realized to take a year off and instead of a game, they released the Assassin's Creed movie in 2016 and then Origins in 2017. Origins fundamentally changed the legacy of Assassin's Creed, for better or worse. Fans of the earlier game may argue there isn't any "Creed" anymore and favor the stealth-action of the earlier games, but Origins tells the story of how the Creed came to begin with (hence the name Assassin's Creed: "Origins") and it's RPG elements are much more experimental and personally, I like the RPG elements more. Origins got the series on a whole new track, and the streak continues as Ubisoft learns new tactics.
Assassin's Creed: Origins is the best out of the modern trilogy so far. It hit everything right the first time and has more of an effect on you than the other two games.
