Howdy everyone,
I made a thread here about a month ago asking for advice that ended up being pretty helpful, so I figured I'd ask for help once again. I'm happy to say the campaign has been going very well so far, and while I have a general idea of what things I'd like to run, I wanted some advice in regards to the idea of taking bits from larger campaigns and running them as individual adventures to incorporate them into the story I'm trying to do. Namely, I'm trying to set up a sort of globe-hopping adventure that takes the party all throughout the Forgotten Realms and potentially some forays outside of it.
I currently have things set up so that the party is going to go through two fairly short unofficial adventures before transitioning over to the start of Lost Mines of Phandelver. However, as I want to keep things hopping about, my plan is to only have the party do a handful of quests in Phandalin before leaving and going on some other adventures before they get called back to town to do the whole Redbrand plotline later down the line. Does this sort of remixing of adventures to break up when events occur work from your experience? If so, what modules work best for being broken up and used individually? I know things like Descent into Averus and Out of the Abyss are campaigns that rely pretty heavily on being one flowing story, but would it be feasible to have an excursion to Chult by sticking in bits of Tomb of Annihilation, or reflavoring floors from Dungeon of the Mad Mage for areas outside of Waterdeep? Maybe using individual tones from Frostmaiden?
Additionally, are there any smaller adventures or one-shots that could work well to this end? I currently have a copy of Tales from the Yawning Portal and am heavily considering Ghosts of Saltmarsh. Are there similar official or DM's Guild packs like these of quality?
What I love about Subnautica, and what makes it feel so unique in my experience, is how the basic gameplay merges so well with the real story and adventure I feel I'm taking part in. I feel like everything I do feels like its based on my own choices, and still fits the story perfectly. Both the big and little stuff. Some examples to help explain what I mean: At one point in the beginning I was using the Seaglide to dive deep enough to get hold of more silver. After successfully getting a Silver Ore I went up to…
