How do I up the difficulty of a banshee encounter since I had 2 new players join?Wouldn’t a banshee scare off any other nearby monsters?

For some reason I am struggling. I have this banshee that is actually a fairly important plot point in that I know who she was before she died and what she means to the overall story. She is protecting a cache of items that the players have learned about and want. It would be cool if there is a social encounter with the banshee where I get to lore dump. In fact, there is actually an outcome where they could trade for the items and have no combat. But probably my party will just attack her on sight.

However I had 2 new players join the group last session. Now a banshee encounter went from deadly to easy. I want to make the encounter a challenge, but it is important that I keep the Banshee because Ive already setup the story of her tragic life and fall and it is tied to the items.

Normally I would swap out the creature for a different creature or just add more creatures. In this case, it has to be a banshee, but adding more creatures also doesn’t feel organic. So I thought, I have a few more encounters leading up to the banshee encounter, but how do I make sure they don’t rest prior? And why would other creatures be nearby a banshee… seems like they are fairly solitary and if she was screaming she would drive away beasts. And lastly, if I add creatures to the banshee encounter itself, how can I do it without completely ruining the (perhaps unlikely) possibility of a social encounter and peaceful outcome?

My one idea is that I homebrew a harder Banshee. But with the action economy going from 4 characters to 6 I’m nervous about balancing that.

So what do you y’all think? Homebrew harder banshee – if so how? Add more to the encounter – if so, how to make it organic? Add more encounters prior to the banshee – if so, how to make sure they don’t rest prior to the banshee?

Note:it is a mountain setting inside a ruin that was buried in a landslide long ago. The campaign is rather low magic at the moment.
