So. This is Shimmer. Good of heart, dumb of ass, absolute relentless monster in combat. Stood her ground against a Red Dragon as her badly hurt friends ran for cover, fully expecting to get eaten so they could live. Thought flinging herself out of a tiny crawlspace and on top of a Tomb Guardian was a reasonable course of action. Survived said Guardian putting a massive hole in the wall with her head. Easily the most destructive character in the party, with all her maneuvers (Battle Masters are awesome, y'all), feats, and reach.

This campaign was the longest one I've ever played, and the only one I've thus far properly finished, start to end. She definitely has the potential, and the fun factor, to go to level 20.

But I never want to have her campaign again.

I realized, as the final battle actually wrapped up, that she'd somehow made it. She was still alive, after fighting her way through one of the most hellish locales in the Realms, and somehow surviving the most brutally vicious dungeon in existence.

I'd played her for two years – I knew her. And I knew her adventuring was done, by now. An experience like she'd just had… Yeah. She wouldn't want to fight on, after that. She'd earned her rest. She had enough gold to buy her home village several times over, her quest was done, and she had no regrets. It was time to hang up the glaive. Ended up writing a 10000-word strong epilogue for her, closing her adventuring chapter out. The emotional catharsis of letting her go on to live a happy, peaceful life(barring the occasional Tavern brawl so she doesn't get bored) is on a level I don't know how to describe.

Read:  Travel (and how you can run it)

She really became a part of my identity, over these two years.

So go on, Shimmer. Live your life. Be happy. You've earned it.

Thank you for reading, if you stuck around this long. I really just needed to put my thoughts down somewhere, get them straight in my head.
