Content of the article: "Pact of the blade rewrite: A way to make Fiend, GOO, Celestial, or any other warlock a more viable melee warlock"
We all known the Bladelock: A Hexblade warlock with pact of the blade, making essentially a swordsman who can shoot Eldritch blast an unlimited amount of times, and even summon a blalgura once or twice an hour.
But what if you don’t want to play a Hexblade? Maybe you wanna have telepathy as a Great old one warlock, or have the abillty to the heal your allies for a bit more hp because the healer is tapped out as a celestial warlock. But you can’t since it would be too difficult to balance all your ability scores, such as your strength for your weapons, dex for your armour, con for your health, and charisma for…. well for spells.
Then here’s a simple rewrite of the current pact of the blade pact boon that could help make a Celestial bladelock, or any other non Hexblade bladelock, more viable:
You can use your action to create a pact weapon in your empty hand. You can choose the form that this melee weapon takes each time you create it. You are proficient with it while you wield it. This weapon counts as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage. When making a weapon attack with this pact weapon, you may use your Charisma bonus instead of your Strength or Dexterity bonus.
Your pact weapon disappears if it is more than 5 feet away from you for 1 minute or more. It also disappears if you use this feature again, if you dismiss the weapon (no action required), or if you die.
You can transform one magic weapon into your pact weapon by performing a special ritual while you hold the weapon. You perform the ritual over the course of 1 hour, which can be done during a short rest.
You can then dismiss the weapon, shunting it into an extradimensional space, and it appears whenever you create your pact weapon thereafter. You can't affect Wean artifact or a sentient weapon in this way. The weapon ceases being your pact weapon if you die, if you perform the 1-hour ritual on a different weapon, or if you use a 1-hour ritual to break your bond to it. The weapon appears at your feet if it is in the extradimensional space when the bond breaks.
Additionally, when you pick this Pact Boon at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in medium armour, and shields.
I think this makes not only other melee warlock's viable, but even a hexblade blaster viable. However, this home rule would also get rid of the Hexblades Hex Warrior ability, but I don't believe that to make the Hexblade any less viable, as they still have Hexblades curse, Accursed Specter, the rest of the class ability's, and all of there expanded spell list.
Please let me know what you think might need to be improved with this home rule.
- A Hexblade/Pact of the Blade Warlock DOESN’T NEED Improved Pact Weapon for Longbows to benefit from Hex Warrior
- pact of the blade, and natural weapons
