Dark Fina & Sol Review

Overview

Watch Here

Dark Fina & Sol are dual-wield magic damage dealers that specialize in Demon killing. They do Fire/Dark damage in base form and Earth/Dark damage in Brave Shift form.

Their base form has an LB tag team attack while their Brave Shift form has chaining tag team attacks.

They are the first magic damage dealers who can do 70% more magic damage to enemies who have their break gauge depleted.

Dark Fina & Sol STMR

(Rod) Twin Sage Serpence Rod

MAG + 198

Increase equipment MAG (50%) and accuracy (25%) when single wielding any weapon

Increase equipment MAG (50%) when dual wielding

It has the second highest flat MAG rod in the game next to a maxed out Dark Gambanteinn++ (224).

50% MTDH on a rod can also be found on Inari Broom (Tsukiko’s STMR), which has a flat MAG of 170.

50% MTDW on a rod is unique to this equipment.

Overall, a flexible weapon that magic and hybrid damage dealers would surely love. It also pairs well with their TMR which gives 30% MAG when equipped with a rod.

Dark Fina & Sol TMR

(Materia) Two Sages’ Magic

Increase MAG (30%)

Increase MAG (30%) when equipped with a rod

Increase MAG (30%) when equipped with a whip

This gives the highest MAG bonus in the game at 90% when equipped with a rod and a whip. Witches’ Cackle from Livid Shantoto comes in at second with 80% unconditional MAG.

Best rod for them would be their STMR and the best whip for them would be Dark Empress Birch from Umbral Dragon Dark Fina.

Overall, awesome TMR.

It has an average flag MAG stat and a bit of HP. Not the best VC for them but still useable in both forms. The 100% MAG bonus when equipped with a rod and a robe certainly helps.

Base Form Strengths

They excel in Fire CWA chains that can be quad-casted. Their big skill is only on a two-

turn cooldown. They also have a Dark CWA skills with a slightly lower mod that their Fire.

Scarlet Heat Lv.5 Fire magic damage (80x) to all enemies Increase LB gauge (6) to caster Chaos Wave Awakened

They can also be built for LB damage. Their LB is a Dark tag team attack that has 24 hits.

They can boost their LB damage by 200% and they have a 100% LB damage passive.

You can take advantage of the tag team attack by capping it using a Dark Finisher.

They have innate dual-wield and the 200% chain modifier cap. They also do 70% magic damage to broken enemies. They have guts in this form.

Base Form Weaknesses

Not much wrong with their base form. It can take a while to build their LB gauge naturally. Otherwise, it is a solid magic damage dealing form.

Base Form How to Build

Build them MTDW to take advantage of the increased damage modifier cap. Their STMR alone can cap their MTDW. Add their TMR to the mix and that adds 90% MAG if you equip them with a whip. A great whip for them would be Dark Empress Birch from Umbral Dragon Dark Fina. If they are already capped in MAG, use another rod like Dark Gambanteinn++ for the high flat MAG.

If you want an LB-focused build, add Guardian of Light (Sora), A Lion’s Heart, Trance Power and Shining Arts Fundamentals to cap their LB damage.

The best Vision Card for them would be A Heartless Sage from NV Sol with a flat MAG of 100 and 130% Mag when equipped with a rod.

Other notable equips include: Arc’s Hat, Minister’s Coat, Cursed Doll+, Heliolite, Rabanastre Dancer's Clothing and Black Roselia.

Base Form Sample Rotation

Turn 1: Buff MAG, LB damage and Demon killer and imperil fire/dark by 120%. Proceed to do fire magic damage using chaining skills and cooldown ability. Turn 4: Fire off LB and maximize damage using a Dark finisher. Rebuff, reimperil and repeat. If not using LB on turn 4, just chain and use cooldown.

Turn 2 Scarlet Heat Lv.5 x 3, Deflagrating Heat+ 345x
Turn 3 Scarlet Heat Lv.5 x 4 320x

BS Form Strengths

  • Available from turn 1
  • Duration: Infinite turns
  • Cooldown to Normal: 1 turn
  • Cooldown to Brave Shift: 2 turns

Dark Fina & Sol will shift their focus to Earth in their BS form. Their Earth skills are tag team attacks. Their LB is a finishing move.

Umber Devastation Lv.5 Earth magic damage (85x) to one enemy Decrease earth resistance (120%) for 4 turns to one enemy Chaos Wave Awakened
Earth Crystal Tag Grant tag-team attack for specific abilities for 1 turn to caster: Earth Crystal Tag Earth magic damage (70x) to one enemy Tag
Earth Crystal Duo <4 turns cooldown, available on turn 4> Grant tag-team attack for specific abilities for 1 turn to caster: Earth Crystal Duo Earth magic damage (140x) to one enemy Tag

Their LB is an Earth Finisher move that also imperils 135% for the same element. Their Earth imperil is currently the highest in the game. The next ones are Fina & Dark Fina’s and Kryla BS’ imperils at 130%. They retain their 100% LB Damage passive and 200% LB Damage buff.

Earth Serpent's Rush . Max Lv 40 .1 Hit . 46 LB Crysts <4 turns cooldown, available on turn 4> Grant tag-team attack for specific abilities for 1 turn to caster: Earth Crystal Duo Earth magic damage (140x) to one enemy Tag

Passives: Nothing much has changed from their base form except the loss of guts.

BS Form Weaknesses

They have no means of filling their LB gauge so they need external LB fill support. They could fill their LB using their base form’s Fire abilities. Earth CWA quad-cast NV chaining partners are rare. Only Dark Fina NVA can chain with them and a dupe. They are better off using their Earth tag skills, their Dark CWA skills or LB finishing.

BS Form How to Build

Build them similar to their base form. They have the same passives except for the 100% chance to survive fatal damage.

BS Form Sample Rotation

Turn 1: Buff MAG by 300%, Earth Magic damage by 15% and apply Demon killer 150%. Proceed to chain Earth skills until Turn 5 then repeat.

Turn 4 Umber Devastation Lv. 5 x 4 *391x
Turn 5 Umber Devastation Lv. 5 x 4 340x

If you want to use their LB, fill their LB gauge in base form then Brave Shift when ready. If you are using an LB entrust, start from Turn 3.

Turn 1 Base Two Sages' Awakening (Dark Fina & Sol), Cosmic Devastation, Scarlet Heat Lv.5 60x
Turn 2 Base Scarlet Heat Lv. 5 x 4 320x
Turn 3 BS Demon Destroyer, Power of the Earth Crystal, Earth Crystal Tag x 2 *161x
Turn 4 BS Earth Serpent's Rush – 100% Passive . 200% Active **1270x

*with 15% Earth damage up

*with 15% Earth damage up and 135% Earth Imperil

Final Thoughts

Dark Fina & Sol are flexible magic damage dealers. They have three elements to choose from – Earth, Dark and Fire. They can chain, LB finish, tag team attack and support. Their BS form’s LB has the highest Earth imperil in the game at 135%. They can also grant 150% Demon Killer (P/M) to the party.

Both of their forms are easy to gear since they have very high MTDW and MAG passives. They also have innate dual-wield and the 200% chain cap modifier increase. They are the first unit in the game that can do 70% more magic damage to enemies with depleted break gauges.

Their STMR is the second highest flat MAG rod in the game. It also provides 50% MTDW and 50% MTDH. This is the first rod that has 50% MTDW on it. It will be useful for a lot of Magic Damage Dealers and Hybrid Damage Dealers as well.

Their TMR boasts a whopping 90% MAG bonus when equipped with a rod and whip. That is the highest in the game. Their VC is average coming in at 90 flat MAG and 100% MAG when equipped with a rod and a robe. However, if you need a MAG-based VC and you missed Ibara and NV Sol, this is your chance to get one.

Overall, I really like the unit and their STMR. They could be useful in Dark Visions against Dark Diablos who is weak to Earth/Fire. I would be quite happy to get them off banner someday.

P.S. Let me know if I missed anything.
