Ideas/Wishes for Morgana’s Enhancement

Hello everyone!

I planned on releasing this when DV was down, but I got confused reading her kit midway so it had to be delayed for more than a week. I still want to do this, but due to my lack of experience with understanding in-depth mechanics of the game it won't hit the mark again. Another thing to consider is that I saw people saying that (paraphrase) this type of content is not really a discussion since I'm talking about empty speculation on what I want on a unit enhancement which I can understand and agree with to some degree (because my response time kinda sucks to constitute a proper discussion), so I used "Fanart" flair for this. However, if anyone still wants to comment about this feel free to do so. Pardon for the incoherent ramblings before and/or after this.

Oh Morgana, for a character who's supposed to be almighty lore-wise, your kit is a bit confusing to understand. I'll list out the things that I find what needs to be improved in her kit before jumping to the ideas.

  • Inconsistent evocation gauge availability. She actually has a non-CD skill that increases EVO gauge by 3 (Arcane Blessing) but it's not available through W-Cast or T-Cast. Otherwise, she has a 4-turn CD skill that enables her to gain 8(!) EVO gauge (Arcane Dimension) which works more as an emergency, a counter that gives 1 EVO gauge once per turn for a magic attack (Energy Conversion), and Empress Supreme which enables her to get three evocation gauge at the start of the battle. She'll only get one per turn from counter if RNG permits barring external supports and hitting enemies, and that's unreliable when a lot of her damage skills rely on EVO gauge.
  • Her multicast. Her Arcane Blessing, for some reason, can't be W-Cast or T-Cast which is IMO one of the biggest reason why her EVO gauge conservation is bad. to rub salt to the wound, Arcane Blessing somehow unlocks T-Cast which can be obtained through her trust ability. At least you want to equip her TMR since it's a relatively rare source of EVO Mag so the T-cast is pretty much useless in her 7-star form. Meanwhile the availability of her Q-cast is quite reliant on her LB, assuming her LB gauge is full the turn after she uses her LB. otherwise, aside from a passive that enables it at the start of the battle (Utopian Throne) and Elemental Enervation, it's not much.
  • Synergy with Elena. They may have a passive that activates when both of them are alive every turn, but their kits don't quite synchronize with each other aside form that tiny bit. The elements that they share with each other (ice and light) have wrong chaining families attached on Morgana's (AZ family) and those that has the same chaining family are either elementless with high evocation gauge cost (Spectral Cutter) or only has one matching element while also having a rather hefty evocation gauge cost (Bursting Luminosity).
  • Low EVO MAG. For someone whose more than half of her damaging skills are evoke damage, she has a measly 40 EVO MAG innately when Emperor Foo, a support/evoker hybrid who is used as a support most of the time has higher EVO MAG than her.

There's also the fact that evoke damage don't factor in killers and other disadvantages of evoke damage in general, but oh well. Now to the skills! (Disclaimer: I'm not using wiki's turn count so it will be one turn shorter than what was written there.)

TRUST ABILITY

This is the first step (rather inconsequential though) in addressing her lack of EVO gauge conservation. By enabling access to Arcane Blessing through her T-Cast, it can hopefully serve as a backup when she does die. The bulk is an additional bonus for her survivability. Speaking of Arcane Blessing…


ACTIVE SKILLS

Arcane Blessing

The thing is, the game doesn't allow you to cast a skill you don't have the cost for even after you cast a skill that restores the cost. In this case, you can't cast any evoke skills even after you choose Arcane Blessing when the evocation gauge is empty. With this cast last on part of her Q-Cast, it will ensure both of Morgana (if used as main DPS) to have at least 6 evocation gauge ready for the next turn.

Elemental Enervation

Myriad Arcana: Cast any of Morgana's skills 4 times.

What I'm trying to do with this is making it one of her bread-and-butter skills. Someone mentioned in my Elena ideas (awful shameless plug) about giving her some utility because when they bring her to boost Elena's killers she's mostly pod slave. What I can think of with this skill is aside from extending the imperil she can also be a bit of an offensive support, giving Global a quicker start with "Increase Elemental Damage" mechanic and her a bit of novelty value early on. The extra mitigation, aside from a little homage on her 2nd week boss battle, is included because she needs to survive to get the evocation gauge boost from her counter move.

Increase modifier (10x) for 4 turns to caster (can't be dispelled): Crystallized Spikes, Crystallized Spikes +1, Crystalized Spikes +2, Holy Radiance, Holy Radiance +1, Holy Radiance +2, Shadow Wail, Shadow Wail +1, Shadow Wail +2, Storm Gale, Storm Gale +1, Storm Gale +2, Glistening Ice, Glistening Ice +1, Glistening Ice +2. Increase modifier (30x) for 9999 turns to caster (can't be dispelled): Arcane Chaos, Arcane Chaos +1, Arcane Chaos +2, Bursting Luminosity, Spectral Cutter. Chains with Absolute Zero. Becomes a single-hit skill. Cost reduced to 2 evocation gauge.

I apologize for the Next Era ticket announcement style of presentation (I'd do anything for being able to make bullet point inside tables but I can't seem to find anything to support this function). The changes in TL;DR:

  • Improve the modifier boost for her wind, dark, holy, and ice evoke skills and a new one for Glistening Ice.
  • Adds permanent modifier increase for Arcane Chaos, Bursting Luminosity, and Spectral Cutter.
  • Increases damage.
  • Changes the skill into a single-hit.
  • Reduces cost into 2 evocation gauge.

The change into single-hit is because Morgana has multiple chaining families in her kit. Making it a single-hit skill may prevent her chain from breaking.

Increase modifier (3x) for 9999 turns to caster (can't be dispelled): Crystallized Spikes, Crystallized Spikes +1, Crystallized Spikes +2, Glacial Needles. Chains with Absolute Zero.
Storm Gale Wind evoke damage (4/0x, 100%/0% ratio) to one enemy. Increase modifier (1.5x) for 2 turns to caster (can't be dispelled): Storm Gale, Storm Winds. Chains with Chaos Wave. Wind evoke damage (20/0x, 100%/0% ratio) to one enemy. Increase modifier (5x) for 9999 turns to caster (can't be dispelled): Storm Gale, Storm Gale +1, Storm Gale +2, Storm Winds. Chains with Chaos Wave Bolting Strike.
Holy Radiance Holy evoke damage (5.5/0x, 100%/0% ratio) to one enemy. Increase modifier (2x) for 2 turns to caster (can't be dispelled): Holy Radiance, Halo Beam. Chains with Absolute Zero. Holy evoke damage (22/0x, 100%/0% ratio) to one enemy. Increase modifier (3x) for 9999 turns to caster (can't be dispelled): Holy Radiance, Holy Radiance +1, Holy Radiance +2, Halo Beam. Chains with Absolute Zero.
Shadow Wail Dark evoke damage (4/0x, 100%/0% ratio) to one enemy. Increase modifier (1.5x) for 2 turns to caster (can't be dispelled): Shadow Wail, Void Blast. Chains with Chaos Wave. Dark evoke damage (20/0x, 100%/0% ratio) to one enemy. Increase modifier (5x) for 9999 turns to caster (can't be dispelled): Shadow Wail Shadow Wail +1, Shadow Wail +2, Void Blast. Chains with Chaos Wave Bolting Strike.
Arcane Chaos Evoke damage (6/0x, 100%/0% ratio) to all enemies. Chains with Chaos Wave. Evoke damage (20/0x, 100%/0% ratio) to all enemies. Chains with Chaos Wave Absolute Zero.

The reason why her wind and dark evoke skills are changed into BS frame attacks is because aside from the abundance of units with wind and dark BS frames on Global, the next big jump in magic damage (Bahamut Dark Fina) has wind and dark BS/CW skills, making Morgana a possible non-dupe partner for her, although changing Storm WInds/Void Blast to BS frames can be done for smoother transition from wind/dark evoke to non-evoke counterpart. Her holy and ice evocation skills' frames are untouched because Nagi's enhancement hints they still want to give support for AZ. The choice of giving AZ frames for Arcane Chaos is nothing much aside from turning it into not CW since it's not really used much anymore. It could be any chaining family, the most logical application being a CWA frame but since this is a wish, I don't want to wish for a chaining family I can't really use lol. However, I won't object if they do change it to CWA especially if it's fixed using suggestions from /u/Cysidius.

Glistening ice becoming Disorder frame is to add one synergy aspect with Elena who has ice and light Disorder skill. Maybe with this Elena's Celestial Guidance enhancement can include a mod boost for Glistening Ice as well…


PASSIVES

Energy Conversion

Somewhat copying the effect from her JP counterpart, this enhancement increase chance of her getting evocation gauge alongside an addition to LB gauge to prep for it whenever something dicey happens.

Utopian Throne

Nothing much to say aside from increasing bulk and offensive stat here.

Empress Supreme

Increase modifier (15x): Glacial Needles, Halo Beam, Arcane Chaos, Arcane Chaos +1, Arcane Chaos +2, Bursting Luminosity. Increase modifier (30x): Storm Winds, Void Blast, Spectral Cutter, Unstable Energy. Increase LB gauge (3) per turn. Recover MP (10%) per turn. Power Evocation +: Increase evocation gauge (4).

Another TL;DR changes:

  • Boosts mod increase to her 1-evocation gauge evocation skills with the addition of Arcane Chaos, Bursting Luminosity, Spectral Cutter, and Unstable Energy.
  • Adds mod increase to non-evoke skills. Numbers are different because two of them has SPR ignore.
  • Adds MP regen.
  • Increases Power Evocation's evocation gauge from 3 to 4.

The MP regen is there in case she decides to use her non- evocation skills, although with the cost as it is, the amount seems like an overkill. The increase in evocation gauge boost is to give option to cast Bursting Luminosity or Spectral Cutter turn 1.

With this many amount of skills being enhanced, what will it accomplish?

I decided to give her a bit of a bulk for surviving enemy onslaught better. If any of these is unreasonably high or lacking, tell me.

Sample of Possible Rotation after Enhancement

I'll be using her Ice damage for this first dupe rotation:

  • Turn 1: Elemental Enervation + Unstable Energy + Crystallized Spikes x2
  • Turn 2: Crystallized Spikes x3 + Arcane Blessings
  • Turn 3: Crystallized Spikes x3 + Arcane Blessings
  • Turn 4: Crystallized Spikes x3 + Arcane Blessings
  • Turn 5: Repeat from Turn 1.

And then, sample rotation using Spectral Cutter/Bursting Luminosity:

  • Turn 1: Elemental Enervation + Unstable Energy + Spectral Cutter
  • Turn 2: Spectral Cutter x2 + Arcane Blessings x2
  • Turn 3: Spectral Cutter x2 + Arcane Blessings x2
  • Turn 4: Spectral Cutter x2 + Arcane Blessings x2
  • Turn 5: Repeat from Turn 1.

Her rotation should be much smoother by changing what kind of multicast enabled by Arcane Blessings. I can't comment much on damage since I haven't put this in calculation.

What's lacking from this enhancement?

  • Utility is still minimal. Aside from imperil and elemental damage boost, there's nothing else really stands out about her aside from being a chainer.
  • Synergy with Elena is still minimal. She gets one Disorder frame with matching element to enables her to chain together, but there's no more addition. An enhancement on Elena that also supports the synergy may also be needed.
  • Rotation for Spectral Cutter/Bursting Luminosity support chaining with non-dupe is still unreliable. Since both of them cost 2 evocation orb and Arcane Blessing only provides 3 orbs, she will need external esper gauge support from equipment (Example being Summer Parasol and Bahamut Synergy) or units (Nearest future example being CG Ace and New Rem). However, she will be able to triple/quadcast them alone with enough support unlike using them with a dupe (which is probably the entire purpose of those skills now that I've realized).
  • No modification on her LB. I'll just rely on Latent Ability (hahahahahaha) for this.

SUMMARY

If I want to exaggerate, Morgana's skills is a bit of a mess. This enhancement idea's purpose, aside from increasing stat and overall damage, is to make her reliably use some of her evoke skills with as little external support as possible and gives her more use as support chainer. There's also a little tweak in some of her damage skills so that she can be used alongside a few future units.

I don't know if I want to do this again. I make this out of wanting to treat Elena's banner partner more fairly and I don't really have idea on which future units that need dire "fixing" and how to fix them.
