Shui Yu Neo Vision Review

Shui Yu Overview

Watch Here

Shui Yu is a Magic Damage Dealer who specializes in Water-element Chaos Wave Awakened chains. She has support abilities in base form and healing abilities in Brave Shift form. Her Brave Shift form deals SPR-based magic damage. Both of her form’s LBs have high modifiers.

Shui Yu’s STMR

Seventh Nirvana

Type: Weapon (Rod)

Stats: MAG+183, SPR+140

Element: –

Resistance: –

Additional effect: Tranquility's Blossom, Two-handed weapon

Increase equipment MAG/SPR (50%) when single wielding any weapon

The Seventh Nirvana is the first rod in the game that has 50% increase in SPR when single wielding any weapon. Let’s call it STDH.

It is the second highest flat MAG rod that has 50% MTDH. The first one is Serpent Rod of the Twin Sages at 198.

Both of her forms will love this STMR since it will also proc her trust passives.

Shui Yu’s TMR

Reflective Water

Increase MAG/SPR (20%)

Increase MAG (20%) when equipped with a rod

Increase SPR (20%) when equipped with a staff

Increase fire and water resistance (30%)

Reflective Water gives 40% MAG and 20% SPR when equipped with a rod along with 30% fire and water resist.

It is comparable to Blossomed Mage Lexa’s TMR that increases MAG (40%) and SPR (20%) when equipped with a rod.

The bonus stats are quite low for a Neo Vision TMR. The only reason to equip this on Shui Yu is to proc her trust passives.

Shui Yu’s Vision Card

Delicate Lotus

Lv. 1 Base MAG/SPR+50

Lv. 10 Base MAG/SPR+75

Lv. 4 Way of the Lian Hua I

Increase MAG/SPR (25%) when equipped with a rod

Lv. 7 Way of the Lian Hua II

Increase MAG/SPR (25%) when equipped with a rod

Lv. 10 Lotus Synthesis

Increase resistance to all elements (20%)

The Delicate Lotus is a great vision card for both of her forms. It can also be useful on a Magic Tank like Shoreline Fina & Daisy for the SPR and elemental resist boosts. A dedicated MAG or SPR VC would be better If you want to utilize one form while ignoring the other.

MAG VC = Heartless Sage, Demon Who Learned Humanity

SPR VC = Virtual Training, The Paopu Fruit's Bond

Base Form Strengths

Shui Yu specializes in Water-element Chaos Wave Awakened chaining. She brings a bit of LB and elemental support while chaining. She can quad-cast them using her cooldown ability Blooming Lian Hua Arts.

Rippling Pond Water magic damage (30x) with ignore SPR (50%) to one enemy Increase LB gauge (3) to all allies Increase MAG and SPR (250%) for 3 turns to caster Chaos Wave Awakened

Blooming Lian Hua Arts unlocks her quad-cast but it also has random MAG and SPR buffs to allies.

Utility: She can imperil water by 120% and other elements by 110%. She can also cure all stat breaks from the party as well as perform a perfect dispel on one enemy. She can boost her Water damage by 25%.

Lotus Retribution Lv.5 Decrease water resistance (120%) for 5 turns to all enemies Increase water physical damage (25%) for 5 turns to caster Increase water magic damage (25%) for 5 turns to caster
Cleansing Lake Water magic damage (40x) with ignore SPR (50%) to one enemy Cure ATK/DEF/MAG/SPR break to all allies Bolting Strike
Seasonal Drought <4 turns cooldown, available on turn 1> Remove all buffs from one enemy Decrease all elements resistance (110%) for 2 turns to all enemies

Her LB does AoE water magic damage which also increases water resistance by 120% to all allies. She only has a 50% LB damage passive with no active LB damage buff.

She restores 3000 HP and buffs DEF and SPR by 150% every turn.

Tide of Salvation (LB) Lv. 40 · 5 Hits · 36 LB Crysts Water magic damage (70x) with ignore SPR (50%) to all enemies Increase water resistance (120%) for 5 turns to all allies
Lotus Dew's Grace Auto-cast Lotus Dew's Grace every turn Increase LB damage (50%)
Activated by Lotus Dew's Grace Increase DEF and SPR (150%) for 1 turn to all allies Recover HP (3000) to all allies

Passives: She has 200% MTDH and 250% MAG when her trust passive is procced. Add 40% MAG when she is equipped with a rod. She is immune to all status effects except for instant death.

Base Form Weaknesses

Her LB hits hard but she only has a 50% LB damage passive and no active LB damage buff. We could remedy this problem by pairing her with Yoshikiri who can grant a 150% LB damage buff.

Her AoE MAG and SPR buff is random so it isn’t a reliable way to buff those stats. However, the MAG/SPR buff as well as the LB gauge fill on herself are constant.

She can imperil the enemy to all elements but it only lasts for 2 turns. The skill has a four-turn cooldown so she can’t maintain it indefinitely.

Base Form Sample Build

She’s fairly easy to build her since she already has 200% MTDH and 290% MAG with her STMR equipped.

Some MTDH equips include: Corrupted Mage, Azure Radiance, Enchanting Archer and Warrior of the Crystal.

I also recommend equipping some LB equips like: Guardian of Light (Sora), Shining Arts Fundamentals and A Lion’s Heart to maximize her LB damage.

Other notable equips include: Arc’s Hat, Heliolite, Minister’s Coat, and Cursed Doll+.

As for the Vision Card, use her own if you plan on using both forms or a dedicated MAG VC like Heartless Sage or Demon Who Learned Humanity.

Base Form Sample Rotation

Turn 1: Apply MAG buff, Water damage buff, Water imperil, fill LB gauge and unlock Q-cast. Proceed to use LB on Turn 2. It’ll hit harder with some LB damage equips and external LB damage support. Turn 3-5, use her Water CWA chains. Rinse and repeat.

BS Form Strengths

Available from turn 2

Duration: Infinite turns

Cooldown to Normal: 1 turn

Cooldown to Brave Shift: 2 turns

Shui Yu turns into a SPR-based Water-element Magic damage dealer when she Brave Shifts. Her attack abilities have healing/support effects attached to them also.

Lotus Rebirth Water magic damage (30x) with SPR scaling to one enemy Revive all KO'd allies (100% HP) Cure stop and charm to all allies Chaos Wave Awakened
Lian Hua Salvation <1 use per battle> Increase SPR (300%) for 5 turns to caster (can't be dispelled) Grant HP barrier (8000) for 5 turns to all allies Increase resistance to stop and charm (100%) for 5 turns to all allies Water magic damage (200x) with SPR scaling to one enemy Chaos Wave Awakened

She gains a bevy of healing and support abilities including a 55% general damage mitigation ability. Hers is the second highest Gen Mit in the game. The first is Charlotte & Physalis’ at 60%.

Lian Hua Restoration Heal (1800 HP, 8x) to all allies Refresh (300 MP) split over 3 turns to all allies
Petal Wall Mitigate damage taken (55%) for 3 turns to all allies Heal (2000 HP, 10x) to all allies 1. Auto-cast next turn: Grant HP barrier (6000) for 3 turns to all allies
River of Benevolence Recover MP (60) to all allies Grant HP barrier (6000) for 3 turns to caster
Revitalizing Waters <4 turns cooldown, available on turn 1> Auto-revive (80% HP) for 3 turns to all allies Cure all status ailments to all allies

Her BS form also has a skill that has random elements and this time, it’s the amount of healing.

Healing Stream <5 turns cooldown, available on turn 1> Randomly use:(50%) Healing Stream Heal (6000 HP, 18x) split over 3 turns to all allies (40%) Healing Stream Heal (9000 HP, 18x) split over 3 turns to all allies (10%) Healing Stream Heal (12000 HP, 9x) split over 3 turns to all allies

Her LB has very high modifiers and boosts LB damage by 250% before hitting the enemy. It is a 1 hit AoE Limit burst so it could be great for killing multiple enemies in a single turn. It costs a modest amount of LB Crysts so you could spam it with external LB fill support or fire it off during turns she doesn’t heal. She also has a 200% LB damage passive.

Sacred Torrent (LB) Lv. 40 · 1 Hit · 36 LB Crysts Increase LB damage (250%) for 1 turn to caster (can't be dispelled) Water magic damage (250x) with SPR scaling to all enemies
Lotus Dew's Grace Auto-cast Lotus Dew's Grace every turn Increase LB damage (50%)
Blossom's Veil Increase LB damage (50%)
Purifying Stagnant Waters Increase LB damage (100%)

Passives: She has 230% SPR and 100% STDH when her Trust passive is procced. Add 40% SPR when she is equipped with a rod. She gains a 75% M Demon killer and 150% more LB damage passive.

BS Form Weaknesses

Her SPR can only be door-potted up to 20. It’s not her main stat so the upper limit for potting is 40 instead of 65.

It is impossible to reach the cap for STDH since global doesn’t have very many STDH equipment. It could change in the future with the fan-created units. One of them could have a TMR or STMR that provides STDH.

Her LB is locked to Water so it’ll be an issue against Water resistant enemies. It’s not a big problem but still one of her weaknesses.

Her STMR, one of the limited equips that provide STDH, has a modest amount of flat SPR. She really prefers to equip it in order to proc her Trust passives. We have no choice but to use it unless another weapon with STDH comes along with higher flat SPR. Then we have to equip her crappy TMR to proc her Trust passives. I’m not sure what’s better or worse.

BS Form Sample Build

Shui Yu will be hard to gear for STDH since most of them are locked behind STMRs and limited units.

The best STDH equips for her would be her own STMR, Grim Brilliance, Boundless Love, and Spirit of the Shinobi.

Add some LB damage equips like: Guardian of Light (Sora), Shining Arts Fundamentals and A Lion’s Heart to maximize her LB damage.

Virtual Training is the best VC for her if going full STDH. Otherwise, equip her own Vision Card.

BS Form Sample Rotation

Her BS Form has an easy damage rotation. Buff MAG, Water damage, fill LB gauge and imperil the enemy to Water on turn 1. Turn 2, Brave Shift and use her LB to cap a chain. You can fire off her LB one after another if you have external LB support like Yuraisha NV.

see video for rotation table

Final Thoughts

Shui Yu is a an excellent Water Magic damage dealer in base form. Her Water CWA chains have excellent modifiers. She can even increase her water magic damage by 25%! She has some offensive support capabilities that may come in handy if you can’t fit a support unit in your team.

Her Brave Shift form has a great healer kit. She has access to an on-demand 55% general damage mitigation. It is second only to Charlotte & Physalis’ 60% Gen Mit. Her LB does a lot of damage despite not being able to cap STDH. She still has a lot of room to improve damage-wise if and when we get better STDH equipment.

She’s easy to build in her Base form and can serve as your primary water magic attacker. She’s a bit difficult to build in Brave shift form if you are aiming to use her for LB damage. The equipment options are quite limited with regards to STDH.

Overall, she’s a great Magic damage dealer with a sprinkle of support and healing capabilities. She’s very flexible in her roles much like Rain & Fina who can deal damage and heal. She will provide great value to those looking for a Magic damage dealer/support/healer unit.

I’m pulling for her because I like her design, I love limited units, I love her damage potential, I have all her relevant equips, she provides great value, and I don’t have any Water magic damage dealers.
