Epic, Plz Let Me Appear Offline for My Own Safety and Sanity

So, here’s the thing. I’m a woman. And I am a TOTAL creep magnet. I’m constantly being approached by creepy dudes – at work, at school (when I went), at outings, in my social circles. It’s a problem.

And the thing is, I can’t always tell them to fuck off. The ones I meet at work know where I work. Some of the ones I meet in other places know where I work or live, too. They are creepy and so their mental stability is often suspect. In short, I am afraid of how they may react if I straight up ghost them or tell them I don’t want to hang. I’ve had problems like this before with guys not taking it well and literally feared for my life a few times.

I love playing Fortnite to unwind, but lately I’ve been getting on less and less. I met a guy who has creep potential (hasn’t gone full creep yet but unfortunately the signs are there) and makes me v uncomfortable. He asked me for my epic info multiple times and I felt forced into giving it to him because of … well… as Dennis Reynolds would say, “the implications.”

And now I’m stuck in a place where I can’t just relax and play Fortnite because I always wonder if he’s on. If he will send me an invite or a message that I don’t want to respond to. If he will get mad if I decline an invite and retaliate. Stuff like that. It’s more anxiety than the game is worth and it’s very unfun.

I understand that we have an “away” option. I understand that we can make our party private and turn off notify friends. But I’ve done all that and still been contacted to play if he can see that I’m on.

I would love to just be honest, but that’s just not always an option when you’re literally afraid of the other person’s reaction to your honesty. Like, it’s not that it hasn’t occurred to me to just tell men I don’t want to play right now or to leave me alone or to just ghost them altogether. It’s that in some particular instances, I don’t feel like those are valid options because I am SCARED.

And it’s not that I don’t try to be upfront and set boundaries, either. It’s that some men just keep pushing my boundaries until they trap me in a corner and I feel like it’s give in or else.

Anyway, I’m sure some will disagree, but I’m sure there are other people out there who can relate and who also feel that appear offline would serve more as a safety feature for them than as a luxury. Just thought like tossing this out there…🤷‍♀️

And I do just want to add that I genuinely hope that no men read this and feel attacked. I fully realize that creepy dudes are a minority and that they do not represent the group. Some of my favorite people in the world are men.

In fact, this post is based on my personal experience, but I don’t mean for this post to have anything to do with gender at all. Just safety and privacy.

The only real point I want to make is that sometimes we have valid reasons for not wanting others to be able to see our activity and that we should be allowed to have that option for our own good.

And also, Epic would probably make more money (over time ofc, as I do realise that the initial investment could be costly) after cashing in on all the lost hours we spend avoiding people. Cause let’s be honest, that’s time we could all spend looking at skins and emotes and getting ourselves more deeply invested in the game.
