Blinded by Nostalgia

Content of the article: "Blinded by Nostalgia"

I sold my 2080 Ti 2 months ago.

Now I game with my back up RX 580.

Since I only have a 4k OLED, most games are too demanding.

So I downloaded some old games from my backlog. Old games that are considered classics and one of the best games ever made.

Baldur's Gate, Deus Ex, Fallout 1, Planescape Torment, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Legacy of Kain, Castlevania, Diablo, Thief, Tomb Raider and some others.

I tried them out. Couldn't play more than an hour on each of those.

I just can't wrap my head around why anyone would think these are the best games of all time, way better than newer games and way better than sequels.

I can't grasp it. I was born in '92, my first handheld was the very first GameBoy, my first console was the MegaDrive, then the PS1.

I played Tomb Raider 2 on the PS1 as a 5-6 year old.

I just fail to see how they are better than the new Trilogy.

Same goes with Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid.

Yes, the first MGS has a better story and an awesome soundtrack, but that doesn't make up for everything else.

There are people who genuinely believe the original RE2 is way better than the Remake.

How? How is that even possible? It has better UI? Better controls? Better Animations? Better Sound?Better Graphics? Better Dialogue? Better Level Design and Textures?

What the hell is better about the original that makes you despise everything new?

Those diehard Fallout fans that absolutely hate 3, 4 and NV. Why? Because the story is slightly worse while everything else is better?

Same with Wasteland 2. Apparently it's 10 times worse than the original.

And Dragon Age is trash compared to Baldur's Gate. And Battlefield 3, 4, 5 is trash compared to 1942.

As if RPG implementation and writing/story are the only two aspects that matter.

What about audio? Voiced dialogue? Refresh rate? Interface? Controls? Animations? Resolution?

None of them matter and some vintage game in 640×480 where you can count every single pixel, running on 20-30 fps is clearly the GOAT?

I just think it's super weird and logically doesn't make sense to me. It's irrational.
