Covid-19 and Gaming

Hey everybody! Been a minute since I've posted. Have recently run into a huge mental block with gaming and have had some thoughts. With the last year and how it's been worldwide, I think a lot of us have been struggling on even day to day things. I know personally, I have this huge mental block on a lot of my hobbies and interests. I've suffered with mental health in the past and I know that can often be one of the first signs of something bigger, but I'm not too sure if I'm there yet.

As a bit of background to what brought this on, I've been playing through my backlog recently. Started with the Witcher 3, and made it about 3/4 through the main story. First time replaying the game since launch and wow, I was having a blast. Didn't play for about a week or so and since then I've had this.. I don't even know how to describe it. It's not quite a lack of interest, and it's not quite boredom, it's more so that I can't mentally prepare myself to sit down and play. I really want to, but I just can't. And it's the same with Final Fantasy VII. Have wanted to play that game for ages, got about 10 hours in, really enjoying myself, about a week goes by and now I feel like I just can't go back to it. And it's not even that I don't want to, I just have this weird block around it.

Don't get me wrong, we all get in a rut sometimes. But the strange thing is, it's not happening me at all with my Switch. I don't know if it's the "Pick up and Play" element of the Switch but I'm having the time of my life playing Stardew Valley right now. Me and my partner picked it up the same day and have both been avidly playing it since. It's been so fun preforming the daily tasks around the farm and getting caught up in that really organised gameplay loop, as-well-as the more relaxed days spent fishing or adventuring. And the more "Infinite" loop of the game hasn't been lost on me either when compared with something along the lines of Witcher or Final Fantasy, yknow, that big game with the big huge story etc etc. Playing Stardew before bed or on my lunch break from work has been a real dream come true for me. Sitting down to play something on the PlayStation or Xbox? I don't know..

I think a lot of it is due to the fact that for the past year we've been stuck inside. Our hobbies have become much more than hobbies, and I think for a lot of us we've all gotten really fatigued with the whole lot. Not trying to rant or anything like that, I'm just hoping that someone else out there might see this and say hey, I've been going through something similar, let's chat.
