Content of the article: "I think that the internet have made video games easter eggs content or hidden secrets in video games more widespread and easily accessible but also eliminated the whole mythical side of the idea of easter eggs and hidden secrets because they are so easily accessible."
Easter eggs are pretty common nowadays and some games have these elaborately designed easter eggs that you have to be either very clever to notice certain things, or have you have to be very lucky and notice them by chance.
I remember the time when there were plenty of rumors and gossip about supposed easter eggs or hidden details that you can do if you did a certain sequence of actions or buttons, or whether you acquired a certain item.
Sure, most of these were probably fake but I think that was a part of the charm and building up the hype of the possibility that there must be a hidden secret inside.
Now with the internet, you become more aware of the hidden easter eggs and secrets that you never knew existed in your favourite games but at the same time, I feel that they are so easily accessible that it really damaged the whole mythical side of the seeking, searching and unlocking the puzzles that are hidden inside the games.
One recent examples is the zombies mode of Black Ops Cold War. While I am sure that there are other secrets that need to be unearthed, it did not take long for Avid players to unlock the elaborately designed secrets of the wonder weapon and the other stuff that are related to the story of the zombies mode, even though some elements are so elaborately designed that one must have spotted them by chance.
I feel that this ruins the whole idea of making these Easter eggs so cleverly hidden in the first place when other people can easily find them with a push of a button or a few data mining.
Of course, there is also the other side of the story where content creators can still spread fake rumors or spread hype based on rumors about things that are not actually there (or the supposed leaks which may or may not be intentionally made by the developers to create hype) but I think that is also a part of the whole idea of spreading rumors to build up over things that may or may not be real in the first place even though one can easily find that out via a good use of the internet.
