If you’ve never played Hellblade, long story short- you need to. In lieu of me passionately ranting for hours, I’m going to quote my steam review I wrote for the game after I finished it for the second time:

I've been on steam for 8 years, I've played over 50 games, and this is the first one that I'm writing a review for. It's not that I don't enjoy the other games, I enjoy them quite a lot and they've affected me in many ways, but this game is so far above the rest that its story needs to be told. Because I have full confidence in saying that this is the best game I've ever played. I'll start out by saying it's not a light game in any way- it's system intensive, it's difficult, and above all the subject matter is heavy. But it's worth it a million times over. The sound design and the visuals are off the charts, the combat is super fun, and the centerpiece of the game, the story, will change you. Guaranteed. As a person who suffers from mental illness I can say it's without a doubt the best depiction of mental illness I've ever seen, and many others have attested to that as well. The main character suffers from severe psychosis, but the themes and the story are applicable to countless different conditions and situations. In short- play the game. You won't regret it.

Update: turns out it’s only system intensive and difficult if you’re like me and both have a potato computer and suck at video games. But if I can enjoy it, that means anyone can. Anyways, as you can tell, this game has had such an impact on me that I struggle putting it into words. It will literally change your life. Hands down the best story I have ever experienced, with amazing sound, visuals, and gameplay to boot. I never would have heard of this game if it wasn’t for my friend telling about it by word of mouth, so I feel obligated to pass on the favor. And who better to tell than you lovely people? If anyone will enjoy the nuances of this game it's this subreddit. So go and do yourself a favor: experience this game.

Read:  I love Breath of the Wild's cooking system but I can't help but feel it's redundant and bit out of place in this game.
