Climbed D5 to D2 quickly with Face Hunter, this deck eats Mages alive

EDIT: Just hit Legend an hour after posting this, stats on the climb from D5 to Legend:

25-10 <13-5 Mage, 5-1 Pally, 3-0 Rogue>

I've been having some trouble climbing back up to legend because I don't really enjoy the Lunacy mage or Secret Pally myself. I've spent time on Deathrattle DH, Murloc Shaman, Doomhammer Shaman, Spell Priest, Poison Rogue, Secret Rogue, you name it, but so far I was hovering around D5 just with 50% win rate. Then I switched to this Face Hunter deck https://hsreplay.net/decks/52w4l7y3aIqzR7StYUbuvd/#tab=overview;

and started eating Mages alive with a 10-4 win rate and also doing well against Paladin in my limited experience. I'm only up to D2 but I'm 18-9 with this deck and crushing all these mages is so fun. Usually by like turn 5 they are at 10-15 health and I'm at 25+ and they are panicking lol.

Just wanted to give folks some hope or another option since I haven't seen much discussion on Face Hunter yet.

Basic play vs Mages is to mulligan for Felmaw or Initiate, but try to always have something on Turn 1 even if its a Wolpertinger or Demon Companion. I usually don't trigger the initiate with a low tempo spell unless I know I can go face with it – I'm happy to just drop it turn 1 and bait out a Ruined Orb or something. I'll coin out a Felmaw turn 1 if I can since that usually ends up going Face on Mages.

Then it's trying to maximize plays with Trampling Rhino or Piercing Shot, my favourite cards in the deck. Don't be afraid to Piercing Shot your own 1 health minions for 5 face damage, I love that move to get around Ice Barriers, but most Mages are just playing Netherwind Portal and have no healing so they drop fast. Just gotta get creative when they drop a Ring Toss – so far I've only seen them play Counterspells, Ice Barriers, or Netherwinds. But I'm still careful to drop something weak for a Mirror Entity surprise.

Keep your Scrap Shots and use them wisely ideally on a Rhino, Quick Shot I try to save but if I have nothing better I just drop it whenever, and a lot of using my hero power then dropped Tour Guide for next turn so I never leave any mana behind. I think I've only ended a handful of turns with 1 mana, always trying to max it out.

Ringling's Rifle provides for some fun strategy, though mostly I want two things; Freezing Trap to kill Librams or remove a pesky Water Elemental or something, or just a basic Explosive Trap to keep crushing face.

Anyway, I've never posted anything here but I absolutely love the community and the game, and since I've been having a blast with this deck and crushing greedy Mages I just wanted to share the joy and well, hopefully I can keep cruising into Legend!

Any questions please ask, and apologies if this is basic as hell knowledge! Cheers friends and happy hunting 🙂
