Maestra Menagerie 3-Class Reno Rogue

Hey all, it’s me Louis the world Tess loop expert back again with maybe the best use of Maestra yet. It’s probably not gonna get you to legend but it’s fun and games can be won.

This deck works very similarly to and has the same ultimate plan as my former Reno Jaraxxus Ice Block deck but from a different angle.

Like that version, you want to try to stay alive as long as you can to create the Jaraxxus + Tess + Vanish loop, locking the opponent out of the game. So ideally, you will be 3 classes – your Maestra starting class, a switch to rogue, and then warlock from Jaraxxus.

The twist with this deck is that the method of picking up whatever other off class cards for Tess is not traditional rogue burgle type cards, but neutral card generation while you’re your other class. There is also the “backup” plan of N’Zoth Menagerie so all eggs are not in the Tess basket.

We also have the Grizzled Wizard combo with Maestra to turn off opponent's hero power, which is very good against quest hunters, even/odd decks, and some other quests.

Oh and Maestra is still bugged and sometimes starts you as a rogue. I've won games this way but it's less fun and you are starting at a disadvantage.

Card Choices:

Combo Pieces –

Maestra of the Masquerade – Starts you off as another class for the neutral discovers, other hero power, and faking your opponent out. Though it has what some believe to be the best hero power, Warlock is the least preferred class you want to start with since you won’t have that 3rd class of cards for Tess.

Tess Greymane – The entire key to the deck. Keep her protected to make sure she doesn’t get burned, Mutanus’ed or Dirty Rat’ed until endgame when ready to go off. You will be spending the whole game setting up the Tess loop, so be very careful and cognizant of the non-warlock cards you find and play. You must play another rogue card before Tess to switch class to rogue or she won’t do much.

Togwaggle’s Scheme – If you don’t have a loop going, use on N’Zoth or Tess with as much of an empty deck as possible. Always use on anything before starting a Tess + Vanish loop to avoid fatigue. This card is extremely important vs control matchups and if it gets burned by something like Tickatus you will likely lose in fatigue.

Zephrys the Great – Primarily used to find Jaraxxus. Seems like you usually get it playing Zeph on 8/9/10 with as clear a board, as little mana, and as large of a hand as possible. Sometimes you have to use it earlier for things like Lightning Storm / Flamestrike to stay alive, maybe you can reveal your rogue self by using Shadowstep for another discover later or win without Jaraxxus.

Vanish – Standard rogue reset button for Wild, is even way better if you are a Warlock and play Tess. Trade off your whole board and try to play as much of your hand as possible before going off to ensure Tess pops back to your hand and you don’t lose her. Tess replays all the cards in random order, and the earliest played minion goes back to your hand first. Avoid finding and playing straight card draw spells such as Arcane Intellect and manage hand size appropriately.

Neutral Burgle/Stay Alive Package –

Neutral ways of staying alive and finding additional action in your other starting class. Note the optimal class progression is Maestra class through hopefully turn 8-9, switch to rogue for a short while, then to warlock from Jaraxxus. Tess will then replay your starting class & rogue cards. You might end up playing some of these after you are a rogue or warlock which is less optimal but can often find useful cards.

Armor Vendor – Throwaway one drop to help stay alive.

Peasant – Often can draw some extra cards against some classes or they’ll spend mana killing it.

Pandaren Importer – “Discover a spell from your Maestra class”

Wandmaker – “Add a 1 cost card from your Maestra class”

Grizzled Wizard – Great against quest hunter and odd/even decks. Play Wizard, then any rogue card and you'll get to permanently keep your Maestra starting class hero power while giving them a dagger. Can be done as early as turn 3 on coin if you have Evasion or Maestra + Wizard and want to give up the chance to discover more Maestra class cards.

Firetree Witchdoctor – The best discover if you can proc it, couple extra dragons in the deck for him.

Stonehill Defender – Not that great since even if you are in a taunt heavy class such as Warrior it still often offers only neutrals, but helps stay alive against normal Hearthstone decks.

Deathlord – Big cheap taunt, I haven’t gotten burned by the deathrattle too much and sometimes it’s good for you Dirty Rat style.

Vulpera Scoundrel – “Discover a spell from your Maestra class or a mystery choice!”

Dirty Rat – Good way to have some early defense and get problematic battlecries out of opp’s hand. Have to know what your opponent is playing before deciding to throw this out on turn 2, and I often like to wait until I have a Scorpid out ready to kill it if it’s problematic.

Taelan Fordring – Stay alive and draw Tess / Reno / 9 drop dragon

Reno Jackson – Nothing more fun than playing Reno 3 or 4 times in a game. Or unfun if you’re the hunter.

Menagerie Package –

Since we want a largely neutral deck for Maestra, there’s a lot of options here.

N'Zoth, God of the Deep – A lot of decks can’t deal with N’Zoth bringing back a bunch of taunts on turn 9. Often combined with Shadowstep & Togwaggle’s for an alternate win condition to Tess.

Dragonqueen Alexstrasza – Seems to make sense in singleton deck, though she’s on the chopping block. Too much variance in the dragons you can get and getting rid of her would ensure Taelan gets N’Zoth.

Zilliax – One of the best taunts to bring back with N’Zoth and gain some life. Try not to find any other Mechs if you can help it to make sure he comes back.

Cobalt Spellkin – An extra dragon for Witchdoctor, and some extra spells. Not the greatest but solid.

Circus Amalgam – Better than you would think, as they'll multiply with several N'Zoth's.

Southsea Scoundrel – A 5/5 for 4 that’s a Pirate and gets you a good card from opponents deck, love this card.

Venomous Scorpid – Discover and it’s a beast.

Death's Head Cultist – It’s a Quillboar with Taunt and lifegain.

Brightwing – Another dragon for Witchdoctor and sometimes you get something good.

Bad Luck Albatross – Hurts opposing Reno decks and has good stats for the cost, usually happy to see it come back.

Encumbered Pack Mule – Filler taunt beast

Other Rogue Cards –

Try not to play these until the last possible moment to not give away your disguise and chances to discover more cards, but sometimes you have to discover something like Betrayal from Zeph to not die or play one of these earlier. Also be careful of mage/warrior dual class cards such as Brain Freeze or Coerce that will switch you to rogue.

Evasion – Fairly effective in a Tess loop but won’t completely prevent you from dying.

Shadowstep – Typically used on Tess vs. slower matchups to buy more Scheme turns, and on Reno vs. aggro, or on Zeph for more action.
