It's that time again. Time for this asshole to ramble about weapon designs.
Laz Poke, Capcom only left in slap-ons for Monsters from World, your weapon designs are all fine!"
Mostly correct, and I am very pleased to have such a vast array of interesting designs again, including a ton from small monsters and some original designs just to sprinkle in some more elements and silly weapons. Truly, I'm 99% happy with how things are looking witht these designs. But that 1% confuses me beyond belief, it is the Capcom specialty "But why?"-ness that no Capcom game can ever avoid, and it is not specifically just that World Monsters are stuck with their slap-ons where they had them (though I still hate that a lot), no, it is a couple specific weapons.
First of all, while I appreciate switching the base models to better match the slap-on parts in some occasions, it seems this was actually done at random because some of them make no sense. Why the hell do Anjanath's hammer parts get moved from the bone base to the metal base when even Anjanath's unique weapons use bone to fit the caveman theme? Why move Jyuratodus bits from the bone Switch-Axe where they look more natural due to the similar color scheme to the ore base where they most certainly don't. If you're going to force us to have these slap-ons where they already existed for the rest of time, you could at least make sense with the choices!
Speaking of making sense, Pukei-Pukei. This poor guy only had 1 "unique" weapon in all of World and Iceborne, its Hammer, which even then was just a recolor of the first stages of the Qurupeco Hammer from third gen. But hey, there's no Qurupeco in World, and there's none in Rise (yet), and that is Pukei's only unique weapon, might as well let him keep it. Oh, what's that, you made it a slap-on now? Uh, Why?!? That's the one thing this low-tier monster had besides its armor, not a single one of its other weapons is unique and it got no new weapon types to rectify that issue, yet you actively choose to take its one unique weapon away. This better mean Quru in Rise U.
But then we have the main event. The one that shocked me to my core. The "But why?". So we all know how things are working in Rise correct? Any Monster introduced in Rise or before world will have a unique set of weapons, even if those weapons did not exist before World and were slap-on in World, that weapon will come back with an actual design. We've seen Diablos and Barroth designs restored, Tigrex and Nargacuga now have actual designs for the IG and CB they received in Iceborne respectively, heck some of the returning monsters such as Rathalos and Rathian and even low-tiers like Arzuros and Great Wroggi who've never even had their original weapons in HD got brand new weapons they hadn't had before! So someone please explain to me why the fuck the Barioth Hammer AND ONLY the Barioth Hammer is still the slap-on design from Iceborne. Why. Why!?! It's the only Barioth Weapon that didn't get restored of the ones that were slap-on in World, it appears to be the only weapon of any returning monster not introduced in World to not be a unique design, and the thing is, there exists a design for this weapon! Frostfang Barioth gave the groundwork for a Barioth Hammer, and that Hammer is fucking gorgeous! Capcom literally just had to retexture the Frostfang Hammer, maybe replace the fur on the hilt with scale patches because its for the base monster and then lower the resolution on the weapon and it'd be done. Why did this singular weapon not get a unique design when a version of one already existed and other returning Monsters were getting brand new weapons. GOD.
It's not all bad obviously, and not even for just the World Monsters. As I mentioned multiple times, World monsters only keep slap-ons where they already had them, meaning theoretically if they get new weapon types, they'll be unique right? Well as the promotional images and leaked images were coming in, it was looking like they wouldn't be getting any new weapons. But there is one. Tobi-Kadachi, who previously had a unique Bow and Gunlance and did not have a regular Lance at all, received a Lance, and it is unique! This means all Monsters introduced in World at least have a chance for something cool in the future! Unfortunately that time still isn't now, as the 2 (now 3 cause of what they did to Pukei) World Monsters without a single unique weapon before also don't get any new weapons (from what's been leaked so far, which seems to be most everything), which I feel they should have prioritized over giving Tobi a 3rd. But at the very least, there is finally definitive proof that World Monsters are not completely shafted of any unique weapons forever, there is still hope, and I await the day they get what they deserve.
Wait, this is a rage post but I ended on a good note…uhhhhhhh WHERE THE FUCK IS MY AWSOME BARIOTH MACE CAPCOM. WHAT THE FUCK! WHY THAT SPECIFIC WEAPON!
