I can’t be the only one that’s fed up watching both the Lovers and the Haters go at it in Discord Chats, Forum Posts, and even here on the Subreddits, not just limited to this one. I’ve ultimately decided to give my two cents on it with the arguments I’ve seen and take it from there.
Disclaimer: THIS OBVIOUSLY DOESN’T MEAN EVERYBODY, THIS IS JUST A GENERAL LIST OF ARGUMENTS AND MY TAKE ON EACH OF THEM, SO NO LONGSWORD MAIN 16,472, AND NO LONGSWORD DISLIKER 92,610, THESE AREN’T ABOUT THE TWO OF YOU WHO ARE MORE RESPECTFUL.
Hater Argument 1:
LS keeps tripping me.
Pro Argument 1:
Other players keep getting close to me.
Right here, we need to split this down to all possibilities because…we don’t know the situation—gonna list these out real quick.
You’re too close to somebody else. This is a common misconception with Longsword and more of a lack of special awareness, one I’ve seen myself. Players (especially new) don’t know how to keep a fair distance from each other, so it’s always something to keep in mind. This also applies to:
The LS is too close to you. Okay, so on the opposite end, you have that LS main that keeps going directly towards the players when building the Spirit Gauge like a new DB user slicing all around a monster.
You don’t have Flinch Free. Ugh…look, I’m on the side that this shouldn’t exist in the first place and has made the fanbase warp itself around using a spare slot to put it in, but equally I do understand considering three specific weapons exist—and no, LS isn’t the one I was thinking of. I blame the Gunner weapons, but it is just one Level 1 Slot and the Decoration can be crafted kinda early, so…I won’t complain too hard. Just remember to wear it in general.
Hater Argument 2:
LS is just easy mode, it uses just three moves.
Pro Argument 2:
LS is just easy mode, we only need three moves.
No it’s not. Both of you need to stop lying to each other and yourselves. Not every weapon is easy to pick up and play—dare I say some weapons are easier for other people to play? I know, foreign as hell concept, but the point is: LS’s preferred playstyle as far as what’s the most generally effective requires a lot for some players (myself included), so I don’t understand what’s wrong with people naturally being able to play it. We don’t argue when people say the controls for Kid Icarus: Uprising are awkward (they are), so why do we get mad with this? Because LS is a faster weapon when optimally used?
Umm…who cares? We’re not fighting each other. Y’all aren’t speedrunning diehard or anything. We’re getting together to fight a monster using giant ass weapons with gimmicks and attributes that appeal to different players and playstyles. Why should it matter how fast a weapon is when we play multiplayer? We should go in just doing our natural best, anyways, with sets best accustomed to our skills, so…as long as players are doing what they need to do, why does it matter if it‘s easy or hard?
Hater Argument 3:
LS is just too hard, those three moves are difficult to land.
Pro Argument 3:
Get good. Learn it or stop complaining, those three moves are difficult to land.
Umm…yeah, read above. You’re still lying. How about just let people use what they want to use so long as they’re not hitting you?
Hater Argument 4:
LS mains are all Weebs and/or Autistic.
Wait, what does that have to do with—
Pro Argument 4:
LS haters are retarded and/or Autistic.
Wait, why does this have to come to—
Shut up, you’re entitled. Use something else.
Yeah, well you can’t use the weapon, so you’re trying to limit me to something else, fuckface.
Fuck off, I’m not telling you to change weapons, just stop flinching.
You literally said—
No I didn’t you daft fuck.
Fuck off, asshole. I’ll flinch you constantly if I ever run into you.
This is daily. This is literally every fucking day with y’all and that was just cliffnotes. I can’t be the only one sick and tired of seeing this for the past few years and it still getting worse. The hate is no more nor less toxic than the love at this point, it’s comparable to the Undertale and Sonic fanbases. We seriously can’t actually be okay with this.
LS mains that are like this, please understand that you’re part of a team. You’re not the star, you’re a cog. You support the team by dealing damage, just like them, and not hitting your teammates while you’re at it. You need to understand that other hunters make mistakes and everyone is to grow from this, not just one side. It doesn’t matter how good we feel, we can always improve somewhere.
LS haters that are like this, please understand that you’re part of a team. You’re not the star, you’re a cog. You support the team by dealing damage, just like them, and not hitting your teammates while you’re at it. Yeah, you notice the two paragraphs above are the same? Y’all are just two sides of the same coin, more alike then you actually realize. We’re here to slay giant anime monsters, not yell at each other like a generic anime drama. It’s gotten to a point where people are kicking others based on their weapon choice. That is low as fuck.
tl;dr No. Read the whole thing and understand that this is a serious problem with the fanbase that needs fixing. If you haven’t experienced anything above, I wanna live under your rock.
Be mad at Capcom, not the people.
Since I have nothing much better to say…
We can Rise above in this World, as through the Generations, fighting through different Frontiers, solo, Portable, and Online, we as a community should celebrate our Freedom and Unite. Tri harder 4 Ultimate glory.
