Monster Hunter World

Why does Capcom hate counters/rolling now?

Content of the article: "Why does Capcom hate counters/rolling now?"

Foreword: I fully expect they've done things to fuck with the other weapons as well, but I write this post as a longsword main.

As someone who only recently got back into MHW, it feels like the further I got into Iceborne, the more Capcom decided to just fuck with any attempt to actually use foresight slash/Iai slash.

So many monsters now have attacks that hit multiple times, so even if you counter the attack, you still get smacked. As my most recent experience – Fatalis' body slam. You only hit the ground ONCE you big noodly fuck, why the fuck does it do multiple ticks of damage? Same with the stupid charge across the arena that hits every time his legs move.

Then even if the attack only does one tick of damage, there are monsters that will just attack multiple times in rapid succession. Fatalis ground punches, fucking everything of Rajang's – as the monsters of Iceborne get more and more coked up, more and more of their attacks basically fucking overlap with each other.

Then EVEN IF the monster only does one tick of damage per attack, EVEN IF the monster only attacks once every reasonable time frame, now every monster fucking runs away with every attack. Want to counter Tigrexes charge? Sorry, he's on the other side of the arena now, no spirit level for you. Fatalis' wobbly noodle headed flamethrower attack? I assure you, good hunter, that slowly shuffling backwards while breathing fire is imperative to the story.

Then just as an addendum to the previous point, even if the monster doesn't run away, they can almost instantly spin on the spot. How the fuck can Kulve Taroth instantly 180 on the spot but my character has an actual turning circle? I don't want to be stuck a hundred metres away attacking your fucking tail, stop turning away from me you massive golden piece of shit.

It feels like none of the monsters in the base game were ever this fucking annoying to fight, where even if you time a counter/roll correctly you still end up getting punished. If I actually manage to I-frame an attack without any points in evade window, I'd like if it I didn't take any fucking DAMAGE, CAPCOM.

Side rant: IF I TELL YOU TO USE A GADGET, OH KIND PALICO, AND YOU TELL ME YOU HEARD ME LOUD AND CLEAR, PLEASE ACTUALLY FUCKING DO IT. I CAN SEE THAT YOU NEVER EVEN STARTED THE ANIMATION YOU LITTLE FELYNE PRICK.
