Everyone is talking about the Strength of Schedule for North America.
But, we have lacked any conversation about something that will affect the season…potentially MUCH more than that: Latency.
Every North America/Europe team will play 11 games, 1 vs every other opponent, and 1 game vs 5 other teams; to bring a total of 16 Games.
This post shows how much of a difference Latency will have on the 12 teams in NA/EU.
Step 1: Average location
This picture shows the city locations of the 12 NA/EU teams. While the players may not be specifically playing from their cities, the exact locations of their houses is not known. As such, using the city where the team is based will be used for calculations.
In the above photo, we have the 12 NA/EU teams.
The table below shows the distance between the two cities.
From this, the latency will be determined.
Latency in ms = <(X + 200) *2) / 124 > + 2
X is in Miles.
Distance, plus 200 for each metropolitan area, times 2 for round-trip, divided by 124 for speed of electrons, plus 2 for transmission time.
This formula lines up with latency over distance.
Numbers in BOLD are teams that will face each other TWICE.

- Gladiators have the highest distance between opponents, LAG vs. PAR, at 5649 miles. And they face off twice.
- FLA, SFS, and WAS do NOT repeat rematch with either European team. Despite that, Shock is still in the bottom half of teams in terms of Latency ranking. Their rematch against Toronto is a big hurt in this aspect.
- The average distance for an NA/EU game across every team this season will be 1598 miles, which has a latency of 31 seconds.

How does this compare to Hawaii – Asia tournament games?

OWL has stated that they desire to keep latency under 100 ms. This can be done. The only team that will make this difficult will be Chengdu. All other teams will be able to keep it at about the max 85-ish ms mark.
