A possible theory of what happened to Alduin and what happens with this Kalpa now.

First let me explain what a Kalpa exactly is, Kalpa (Sanskrit: कल्प kalpa) is a Sanskrit word meaning a relatively long period of time (by human calculation) in Hindu and Buddhist cosmology. Generally speaking, a kalpa is the period of time between the creation and recreation of a world or universe. The definition of a kalpa equaling 4.32 billion years is found in the Puranas—specifically Vishnu Purana and Bhagavata Purana.

In Hinduism (cf. Hindu time cycles), a kalpa is equal to 4.32 billion years, a "day of Brahma" or one thousand mahayugas, measuring the duration of the world. Each kalpa is divided into 14 manvantara periods, each lasting 71 Yuga Cycles (306,720,000 years). Preceding the first and following each manvantara period is a juncture (sandhya) equal to the length of a Satya Yuga (1,728,000) years. A kalpa is followed by a pralaya (dissolution) of equal length, which together constitute a day and night of Brahma. A "month of Brahma" is supposed to contain thirty such days (including nights), or 259.2 billion years. According to the Mahabharata, 12 months of Brahma (=360 days) constitute his year, and 100 such years the life cycle of the universe. Fifty years of Brahma are supposed to have elapsed, and we are now in the Shveta-Varaha Kalpa or the fifty-first. At the end of a kalpa, the world is annihilated.

Now according to Hinduism, at the end of every Kali Yuga, there is a great battle, between Kali, the demon of prostitution, gambling, gold, drinking and animal slaughter after whom tge Yuga is named, and Kalki, the final avatar of Vishnu, who is prophesised to defeat Kali at the end of Kali Yuga and mark the end of 4th and final Yuga after which the universe will be destroyed in an event called pralaya only for it to be recreated anew during Sat Yuga.

Now as per Kali puran (Kali's scripture), during the decisive battle between Kali and Kalki's armies, Kali tried to face both Dharma and Satya Yuga personified, but was overwhelmed and fled on his donkey because his chariot had been destroyed, leaving his owl-charged war flag to be trampled on the battlefield. Kali retreated to the citadel of his capital city of Vishasha where he discovered his body had been mortally stabbed and burned during his battle with the two devas. The stench of his blood billowed out and filled the atmosphere with a foul odor. When Dharma and Satya burst into the city, Kali tried to run away, but, knowing his family had been destroyed, coupled with his grievous wounds, he "entered his unmanifested years". This might lead some to believe he died, but one version of the Kalki Purana in the book The Origins of Evil in Hindu Mythology states Kali does not die but, instead, escapes through time and space to live in the Kali Yuga of the next Kalpa. The author comments, "Unlike most battles between gods and demons, however, this apparent victory is immediately undercut, for Kali escapes to reappear in 'another age'—in our age, or the next Kali Age." Since he had the power to manifest himself in human form on earth, he was able to forsake his dying corporeal form to escape in spirit.

This account of Kali and Kalki sounds extremely similar to that of Alduin and Dovahkiin, where bought duke it out over the Throat of the World, with Parthurnax assisting the Dovahkiin, only for Alduin to get seriously wounded due to Dovahkiin using the Dragon Rend shout, and him retreating to Sovngarde, where the Dovahkiin chases him and kill him…..only for him to dematerialise and fade away, here too our victory feels somewhay undercut as we expected to finally kill the World Eater and absorb his soul, ending him for once and for all, but we don't, we return to the Greybeards to learn that while we might have won today, the threat migjt just appear at another time, or perhaps we have broken the cycle of time. We know Micheal Kirkbride was quite fond of Hindu ans Buddhist mythology and esotericism, even concpets like CHIM is very reminiscent to Moksha and Zero Sum is very identical to Nirvana, so it could be possible that even Alduin defeat but not death was also came from there.
