I just got complimented as a tank.

Reading the title may make you think that I'm ungrateful, or maybe you might think that this is an "it's about time" post, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Lemme break it down for y'all.

TL;DR: If you don't wanna do some lengthy reading, here's the TL;DR: I'm freakin' ecstatic (to the point I wanted to write about it) and I really want to encourage positive reinforcement among the player-base. Like most everyone else, I guess.

Firstly, I'm a new tank, and by extension a new player entirely. Part of the reason I wanted to be a tank was because I saw throughout a lot of videos and posts that the game was lacking tanks. ESO is my first MMO, and i wanted to be useful/needed rather than just being another drop in the DPS ocean (not to rag on DPS classes, i just started a new mage and I'm having tons of fun).

I'd just unlocked some of the harder dungeons, and was running Unhallowed Grave, which is fairly mechanic-heavy. Like a noob, I'd failed to mention to my group that it was my first time running it. We get to that one boss with the circles and the fire vents and all that, and we wipe. One of the members of the group points out, "tank you gotta pull", which is when I mention that it was my first time and I wasn't familiar with the mechanics. Rather than berating me, the player just said "ok, but you need to let your groups know beforehand". How I hadn't thought of that before then made me feel even dumber, but they were surprisingly cool with it.

That same player then proceeded to stop the group before any boss during the rest of the run, and made sure to carefully explain all of the mechanics to me, even though everyone else had run the dungeon before. Even they didn't mind waiting. By the end of the run, that first wipe was the only one we had, and we'd all gotten our sweet sweet loot. Thanks to them, and the design of the dungeon itself, that experience easily tops the list of my best playing this game. As I was about to leave the group, each of them said I did a great job and thanked me for tanking. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I had to back away from my keyboard for a sec to just appreciate that.

After seeing so many posts about people faking tanks to queue faster, and other posts/videos of people ripping into tanks for not doing their jobs, I feel so lucky to have grouped with these legends. As a final note, I want to say that even a simple "tyfg" makes a world of difference for people like me who live off of small compliments or thank-you's. Please, please, the next time you're playing a dungeon, or just questin' around in the overworld, thank your group mates.
