Need help with mage robes

So last week I took the plunge into Skyrim modding, going deeper than ever before. I've run into problems with black faces but I've managed to fix them on my own after reading various comments on this subreddit and on nexus (turns out it was immersive weapons causing it all btw).

But now there's a rather annoying issue that I can't figure out how to fix. This playthrough I am playing as a mage, and I've been seeing in the shops that the robes are different colors depending on the school of magic that they improve. Once bought in my inventory, the viewable texture for an 'Apprentice robes of destruction' for example will be red cloth.

However when I equip them, they become the standard blue color that apprentice robes in vanilla are when I look at them in 3rd person. Interestingly, when I unequip my gauntlets I can see that the robe textures are red like they're supposed to be in first person. Additionally, when i make a female follower equip them, they display as red robes correctly for them.

I've tried shuffling the various armor and clothing mods i have around to try and fix this issue but it didn't work. Any feedback would be appreciated.

my modlist is as follows:
