The Witcher

Currently reading the books and just finished “A Little Sacrifice” and I haven’t been this teared up from a fictional story in a long time.

As the title says I'm currently reading the witcher books in chronological order starting with the two short-story books and this chapter in "Sword of Destiny" really hit me and I just feel that I need to share this with someone before I go to sleep. Truly an amazing story with an ending that I was not prepared for.

First off, it's been quite a while since I've read any fiction books before I started reading the Witcher books thanks to my love for the games and boy do I not regret starting to read them. After this story there's nothing stopping me from being as immersed in the books as I've been in the games. Maybe I might even start reading other fiction books after this because one thing holding me back previously has been that I honestly thought I could not get immersed in a book but this has definitely changed that idea…

About the ending though. What hurts me the most isn't really the death of Essi itself but rather how mundane it was portrayed and that I was finally getting the feeling that things were turning out quite well for the three characters. I had wondered throughout the story why Essi never shows up or is mentioned in the games so I was sort of expecting something bad to happen to happen all the time but only until that final page because then things actually seems to end pretty well. But then the ending just hit me and the way it's written with dandelions song in mind just makes it worse (better) and really makes me appreciate Dandelion a lot more. Genius writing from Sapkowski and I can't wait to see what else this book (and the rest of them) has in store for me, even if I feel like I need a breather right now.

Anyway, I'm just rambling. I just felt like I needed to vent after that ending and if anyone has any other comments on this particular story, I'd love to hear them. I'll be reading the rest of the book after this so no spoilers from the rest of the stories would be appreciated! Good night for now though, I feel like I need it after this…
