World of Warcraft (WoW)

Quick info regarding the Chronoboon Displacer

So the Chronoboon Displacer that is implemented with the patch this week gives us all the ability to keep playing our chars after having gathered world buffs but still awaiting our raid.

There are some restrictions to it though and I tested some stuff on the PTR to avoid making mistakes once the item is live.

Chromie sells the Chronoboon Displacer for 10 gold.

You must have completed the quests : A Matter of Time and Counting Out Time (no needto repeat the latter) (afaik, have not confirmed)

You can purchase as many Chronoboon Displacers as you'd like, however they are somewhat restricted in the way you can store World buffs.

There's a 1-Hour Cooldown on the Chronoboon Displacer which triggers both when you use a Chronoboon Displacer and a Supercharged Chronoboon Displacer (the item which the World buffs are stored in)CORRECTION: The CD on The Displacer is visually triggered by using a SCD to restore buffs unto your character but after relogging the item is no longer on CD allowing yo uto only wait for a single one hour CD to recapture World Buffs into a new SCD. Obviously this is bugged one way or the other and might not work exactly the same way on live servers. Thanks to JustSomeBadAdvice for bringing this to attention!

The Supercharged Chronoboon Displacer is a unique item and you cnanot have 2 Supercharged Chronoboon Displacers with different buffs, only one single Supercharged Chronoboon Displacer at any one given time per character.

Chronoboon Displacers are not bind-on-pickup but the SCD that have the buffs stored are. So if you have any world buffs right now that you would like to store after the patch, you can have another character trade them to you. This lets you use them even if you haven't done the quests for Chromie yet.

Some things I tested on PTR:

  • You CAN pick up Songflower while you have all other buffs (but not SF) in a Chronoboon Displacer.
  • You CANNOT get a new WCB while you already have one in your Chronoboon Displacer.
  • You CANNOT get a new Songflower buff while you already have one in your Chronoboon Displacer.
  • Razorhide (camp taurajo buff) and Zanza do NOT go in the Chronoboon Displacer.

There is a video of a hunter picking up Slip'kig's Savy while he already has one in his Chronoboon Displacer.

I couldn't test this myself on PTR, but we should double check this after the patch, since it's not meant to work like that. I assume he actually does benefit from the buffs, since the way it works with WCB is that I simply didn't receive it at all.

The blue post says:

You may not benefit from additional world buffs until you have restored any that you currently have stored in the Supercharged Chronoboon Displacer.

Some people wondered if this meant you couldn't pick up buffs that you don't have stored yet. That's not the case.

This should be interpreted as "You cannot pick up world buffs that you currently have stored in the Supercharged Chronoboon Displacer".

-Thanks eikons for the extra info!

What you can do in order to maximize buff timers on your character is to: Collect a World buff, instantly use Chronoboon Displacer to store it in a SCD, then once you collect the next World Buff you can use your SCD so that you have both World Buffs active on your character, then log out for one hour for the Cooldown on the Chronoboon Displacer (which was triggered by using the SCD) to run out, then use another Chronoboon Displacer to store both World Buffs, you should now have both World Buffs in the SCD with minimum time elapsed on both. Repeat this for each World Buff to achieve maximum uptime of World Buffs.

I do not recommend minmaxing like this but I also know that there are a vast ammount of players thta will indeed go to extreme lengths to minmax to this extent and I consider it a failure on Blizzards behalf to leave such a significant design flaw in a system that is improve our QoL in classic vanilla.

After all, the modern WoW player will minmax the fun out of the game if given the chance and we've proven that the meta that the majority of casuals follow is the meta set by the more hardcore players.

I'm happy we're soon done with World Buffs alltogether, good fucking riddance! 🙂

Edit: Additional info to answer some popular questions:

SCD is unique, while you have one in your inventory you cannot store any more Wbuffs, you need to pop your SCD in order to store additional WBuffs.

While you have an SCD with for example DMT and Rallying Cry in your inventory you can pick up a SF, then pop your SCD so that you have DMT, Rallying Cry and SF active on your character at the same time and then re-capture them with a new Chronoboon Displacer!

popping a SCD puts the Chronoboon Displacer on CD but on the PTR that CD is removed if you relog, I'm not sure what part of that is a bug but it's obviously not working as intended.
