Commander Exchanges – UPDATE

About a month ago I wrote this post: (https://www.reddit.com/r/WorldOfWarships/comments/kedwe5/1921_point_commanders_options/) about methods to pay for C-EXP / F-EXP so you could get your commanders from 19p-21p.

With the article released this morning (https://worldofwarships.com/en/news/general-news/commander-skills-update/) I noticed a small change concerning the sacrifice of commanders for doubloons.

In the original dev blog, the exchange was:

• 1 Doubloon per 150 Exp – 50% of Exp Obtainable (https://blog.worldofwarships.com/blog/70)

Now it is:

• 1 Doubloon per 110 Exp – 100% of Exp Obtainable

On face value this looks much better, but let me explain why its not. With these calculations, please remember the following: Numbers always get rounded up, and monetary values are expressed in USD.

This was the original calculation using 10p Captains and Doubloon exchanges.

Medium Cost and Sacrifice – Utilizing Commander Sacrificing (Doubloons)

• 10 Point Commander = 183,000 total EXP
• 3 Point Commander = 8,000 total EXP

As per Dev Blog #70: https://blog.worldofwarships.com/blog/70

• 50% of experience earned at the cost of 150 experience per 1 doubloon.
• 183,000 x 0.5 = 91,500 EXP per Exchange
• 91,500 / 150 = 610 Doubloons per Exchange
• 1,200,000 / 91,500 = 13.11 Commanders needed to be Exchanged (round to 13)
• 13 x 610 = 7,930 Doubloons
• 7,930 Doubloons = $31.72 USD

Receive: 1,189,500 EXP

Cost: $31.72 USD, 13 x 10p Captains, 10,500 Existing FEXP

This is the new Calculation:

• 10 Point Commander = 183,000 total EXP
• 3 Point Commander = 8,000 total EXP

As per News Article

• 100% of experience earned at the cost of 110 experience per 1 doubloon.
• 183,000 / 110 = 1664 Doubloons per 10p Captain
• 1,200,000 / 183,000 = 7 (6.55 rounded up) Commanders needed to be Exchanged
• 7 x 1664 = 11,648 Doubloons
• 11,648 Doubloons = $ 46.59 USD

Receive: 1,281,000 EXP

Cost: $46.59 USD, 7 x 10p Captains, (81,000 EXP left over).

As you can see, while it costs 6 less 10p commanders, you're now shelling out an additional ~$15. Needless to say, while on face value, this 100% looks so much better than the 50%, with the reduced exp per doubloon, you'll actually end up paying more.
