*Warning: This is a bit of a rant*
TL;DR Wargaming needs to add comprehensive tutorials of essential game mechanics (armor angling, ship roles, spotting, shell choice, etc.) to improve the quality of play in the game.
We've all had our fair share of bad players in this game. Whether its people fail divisioning, battleships reversing at the star of battle, destroyers not contesting caps, or cruisers suicide torping at the beginning of battle. This can result in emotion that range from hilarious to annoying to complete frustration. It is easy to make fun of such players or rage at them, but often, its not their fault.
Here me out here. Put yourselves in the shoes of a person whose never played the game before. You see it in the store or through an ad. I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that most people think "COOL! Big SHIPS with BIG GUNS!" rather than "Hmm, this game will require critical thinking and strategizing skills." They download the game and the game tells them how to shoot and move their ship. After a few AI battles, they completed the tutorial and can now play with real people.
Here lies the biggest problem in the game. There is a complete and utter lack of any in-depth tutorial. Basic game mechanics such a armor angling and shell choice are not explained thoroughly to the player. Even worse, they are never taught the importance of caps, or the what the basic roles of the ship classes are. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why such players are so bad. The game provides ZERO feedback to the player on how to improve and it is often impossible if your not willing to go online and look up tutorials.
Its not surprising why this behavior is visible up at high tiers as well. Without basic understandings of game mechanics, they are under the mistaken notion that a bigger, better ship will make them better at the game. The cash starts flowing and you start to see the reversing Iowas.
The primary cause of this is the lack of any decent tutorial system showing new players how to play the game correctly. In order, to improve the quality of play and to help some poor potatoes, I ask of Wargaming to put quality, in-depth tutorials into the game. In fact, they don't even have to be interactive tutorials, just put in the "How it Works" tutorials from Youtube into the game. This videos are well-made, easy to understand, and very informative. If the player base really wants better teammates, this is the feature we should be asking Wargaming for.
- I think more games should have a tutorial section as a separate option in the main menu instead of making it a mandatory part of the campaign.
- im going to be making an updated and accessible tutorial for working with nifs in blender, is there anything youd like to see?
- This game requires a proper tutorial
